Welcome to Seven for Saturday 3#, a roundup of things on my mind this week!
1. Tuesday night Bill and I went to a VIP party at the Sonoma Stompers Baseball game, hosted by ZÜPA NOMA. Ayesha Curry is a brand ambassador for ZÜPA NOMA and made a special appearance at the game, even throwing out the first pitch – which she nailed, by the way.
It was such a fun event! I didn’t get a chance to meet Ayesha but Bill and I did chat with her beautiful mother for awhile.
We took home a swag bag filled with healthy snacks, a #SOUPSQUAD baseball cap and a few other goodies. I have been enjoying my ZÜPA NOMA chilled soups each afternoon. They are flavorful, super healthy and so refreshing during these hot summer days. And you can make cocktails with them, so there’s that 😋!
2. Today I am spending most of the day in the kitchen getting ready for tonight’s Pop Up Dinner. It is going to be very hot today 🔥 so we are bringing foods that can be served room temperature or chilled. I am making homemade cole slaw, corn salad, and a strawberry dessert. Others in our group of 13 are bringing main dishes, tableware, appetizers, and wine.

3. I stopped adding to my Jar of Gratitude last month. We were away from home a good portion of June and I fell behind in writing my daily cards. Once I was back home and settled, I thought about starting up again and realized it felt more like a chore than an exercise in joy and appreciation. So after 18 months, I stopped. Then I looked at some other daily rituals I had taken on – pulling a spiritual/self-care card over coffee, going around the house and collecting 5 things to get rid of everyday, and filling up my to-do journal – and decided to quit doing all of it!
Now my mornings are spent writing, reading or even just watching the news with my husband. While putting together this post, I had a lightbulb moment. I created a new ritual around the same time I quit the others with this Seven for Saturday series!
4. A couple weeks ago, I decided to stop something else: buying summer clothes and accessories. I have plenty of cute summer clothing to get me through to fall…and then I saw this dress at Gap and well, so much for my summer clothing purchase halt!
It is darling! I love the ruffle detail and the pretty pattern. I may be wearing this cutie for the next How I Wear My. The theme for August is “Sundress, Romper or Jumpsuit.”
5. Bill and I went down to our local feed store, Swede’s Feeds, to buy dog food and while we were at the register paying, I noticed this jar of Gipson’s Golden Avocado Honey. Avocado honey?? I had never heard of such a thing – I had to bring a jar home. It’s on the light side as honeys go and does not taste like avocado one bit 😋 I can’t wait to cook with it.
6. On Wednesday, my friend Michelle and I went on a tour at Quarryhill Botanical Gardens with their Executive Director, Bill McNamara. He led us through the 25-acre wild woodland garden that is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. All plants in the garden – 25,000 of them – were brought to Quarryhill from Asia and planted as seeds!
It’s a beautiful place to visit to learn about Asian plants including this interesting purple flower is a Platycodon grandiflorus, also known as a Balloon flower, and it’s native to East Asia.
Plan a visit if you’re in the area. It’s serene, beautiful and offers 2.25 miles of trails so you can get a little exercise in. Visit their website for more information.
7. I was invited over for rosé wine and appetizers at my friend Hollie’s new house in Sonoma. You may remember the healthy eating class I took at Ramekins last January. Chef Hollie Greene was our instructor. Since then, we have become friends, I am happy to say. I so enjoy her company.
This is the spread that Hollie had waiting for me and our mutual friend Jennifer. The Granny Smith apple slices topped with a spoonful of smoked trout, creme fraiche and fresh dill were fantastic and so easy to make. I want to make them the next time I need to take something to a dinner party. Or just to have as a snack.
She also made Red Pepper Spread with Hazelnuts and Pomegranate Molasses, a recipe from her friend and cookbook author Aglaia Remezi. I just bought one of Agalia’s cookbooks, Mediterranean Vegetarian Feasts, and am excited to try her other recipes.
