Happy weekend and welcome to Seven for Saturday ☀️
It’s been a busy, eventful week around here. I am excited to share a a few things with you so let’s get started!
1 -Celebrated ‘the girl & the fig’
Twenty years ago this month, the girl & the fig opened its doors. It became one of the most – if not the most – popular restaurants in of Sonoma and remains so today. It’s also known throughout the Bay Area as the place to enjoy delicious French food with a Wine Country twist, all in a stylish and fun atmosphere.
When I heard that my friend and co-owner of the girl & the fig. Sondra Bernstein, was throwing a huge dinner party in the Sonoma with her business partner and co-owner, Chef John Toulze, I did not wait to buy my tickets. I knew this event would sell out fast, and I was right!
Six hundred guests sat down to a phenomenal meal in the heart of Sonoma. It was a fantastic evening and I am so glad to have spent it with Tori and some great friends.
Congratulations, Sondra and John! Here’s to 20 more 🎉
2 – About Those Solar Eclipse Glasses….
Remember the Seven for Saturday post when I mentioned I’d ordered a pack of 5 solar eye protection glasses for the upcoming eclipse? Only one of us put them to use.
Sonoma County was sadly blanketed in clouds so no eclipse viewing here. But my husband, away fighting a forest fire several hours north, did get to see it. I am so glad I remembered to pack a couple pairs of glasses for him.
Did you get a chance to see the eclipse?
3 – Veraison
One thing I enjoy about this time of year in Wine Country is all the pretty grape clusters. I especially love seeing the red varieties go through veraison – when the grapes turn from green to deep purple, to put it simply. I might need to frame this one. It’s my favorite versaison photo from this season!
4 – Cute Sandals On Sale
I have been wearing these ankle tie block-heel sandals a ton this summer.
They are so easy to walk in with their large block heel and I love how they can add a little extra style to my outfits. They are on sale right now and they come in olive green and cognac, which I also have.
5 – Rock the Rails
In my last post, I told you all about my recent ride on Napa Valley Wine Train taking the Quattro Vino Tour. I was elated when I was asked to return to Rock the Rails!
Rock the Rails, a new music series benefitting the Rail Arts District (RAD) Napa Valley. It kicked off earlier this week with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy performing at V Sattui Winery.
I invited my longtime friend Christina to accompany me. We rode the multi-car train this time and were seated in the Vista Dome car which has big rounded windows. As we made our way from the Wine Train Station to V. Sattui, we were treated to a three-course meal and bubbly!
The concert was so much fun! I loved Big Bad Voodoo Daddy – such energy and talent and an immensely entertaining performance. I am now their newest fan.
There are two more concerts this season and include Sheila E on September 21st at Grgich Hills Estate, and David Pack’s Legends Live on October 5th at Charles Krug Winery. Get your tickets here.
6 – New Starts for the Fall Garden
Tori has taken charge of our vegetable garden, thankfully. Left up to me, there would be nothing but dirt and old half-dead plants in our garden. A green thumb, I do not have.
Today, Tori went out to Harmony Farms in Sebastopol and picked up peas, kale, rosemary, thyme, lettuce, watermelon radishes, and rainbow chard. I love all of her choices!
We are expecting 100+ degree heat the next week so she will probably keep them shaded and sprayed with water until the heat subsides.
Do you keep a fall garden?
7 – New 50th Birthday Plans!
My 50th birthday trip plans have changed quite dramatically. The New Mexico and Texas road trip idea has been replaced with a two-week trip to France. I could not be anymore excited if I tried!
We leave in mid October and will spend the first several days visiting areas not far from Paris including Normandy, Giverny, and the Champagne region. The only parts of the trip that are booked right now are our plane tickets and the hotel where we will spend four nights at the end of our trip, during my actual birthday. I am delighted that our room will have a view of the Eiffel Tower!
How I Wear My is happening September 13th. Jill and I decided to close out the summer with one last warm weather theme: Straw!
To join in the fashion fun, send us a photo showing us how you wear “Straw” and be sure to include a description of your look and link to your blog or Instagram account. Send it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org by the end of the day on September 11th.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Disclosure: The two tickets to Rock the Rails were given to me in exchange for coverage. All opinions expressed here are my own, as always.
